The symbolic rooster that represents a country, the oldest village of Portugal, cradle of a still existing nobility and a princess mirrored in the Atlantic.
The northern region of Portugal has beautiful small cities where tradition was well kept and it’s still possible to breath authenticity!
First stop of the day will be Barcelos, the birthplace of the famous rooster who saved a pilgrim on his way to Santiago de Compostela (so it says the legend!) and where we have the largest open air market in Europe (Thursday). Impossible to skip the archeological Museum, the parish church and the hand painted tiles at “Senhor da Cruz” temple.
At Ponte de Lima we will have time to cross the bridge over the “lethes” river and see its roman foundations. The oldest village in Portugal, proud of its rurality has an imense number of Manor Houses in its surrounding area, hosting nowadays guests with a unique “savoir-fare”. At lunch, time to taste the local gastronomy and wine - Vinho Verde.
At last we will arrive at Viana do Castelo, the capital of Minho Region traditions, the gold, folklore music, costumes, religious processions and regional pastry, makes this small city a must go place whenever visiting Portugal.
Return to Porto and arrive by yhe end of the day.
